QVIST Outdoor Cooking: Traditional Cast Iron Cookware

Welcome at the Wild Harvest Store. The place to find a wide variety of natural products from different European sources.

It may seem to some that an initiative advocating the use of wild edibles will only add to man’s depredation of his surroundings.

Well we take a different view. Encouraging people to get a taste for the wild and to prepare fine food will increase their willingness to actively preserve nature. The experience being part of it will lead to the awareness of our responsibility.

Preservation does not mean that e.g. no plant should be picked. It does mean, however, that no plant that is rare or endangered should be picked, and even common plants should be picked in such a way as to insure their survival.

The following are some thoughts to keep in mind as you are going out to collect wild harvest yourself:

  • Do not collect more than you will use;
  • Do not collect for trade purposes;
  • No plant that is rare or endangered should be picked;
  • Always leave enough for the next person and to insure the plant’s survival the next year;
  • Leave the root in place and intact when collecting any part other than the root;
  • When picking plants, create as little disturbance to the surrounding vegetation as possible;
  • Fragile habitats should be avoided;
  • Always be aware of local regulations and act in such a way.

Although the producers presented are aware of their responsibility not all of their produce complies the same standard. There are certified and non-certified initatives. Some use their own written standards. For as far certification schemes are applicable these are mentioned.
